Question by Liverpool 4 – 2 Arsenal: Would artificial turf prevent football having so many leg and ankle injury’s?
A football stadium as we all know, Has grass where the players play the game of football on right. But you may know or
not know, That 40% of Ankle/Leg etc injury’s are caused by the players football boot’s studs getting stuck in the grass and causing the player to fall and twist his ankle/leg and possible break or pull something. Would the game of football be better and have less injurys if they used artificial turf? Therfore the studs wouldn’t be able to stick into the grass, And im sure they wouldn’t even need studs.. They could make some new boots that fit this scenario.. Anybody agree?

I’m not sure because there are also alot of injuries that occur on turf too.

It’s the opposite.
Football should always be played on natural grass.
But it cost a lot of money to maintain a good field so that’s why some stadiums go to turf. I hate the stuff.
I would like to see them bring back the carpet from the old vet, soldier field, and three rivers stadiums. It would be classic.
You can skid just as much or more on an artificial pitch.. the problem as i see it especially with a huge percentage of injuries being metatarsal, are to do with the design of the boot more then the grass.. the toes go into a crab position so combine that with flimsy boots designed for the footballer to hone his skills more then they are for safety and the simplest of tackles result in fractures / breaks in the foot.
When on natural grass, if you hit it funny the grass tears off but it takes the brunt of the collision. On artificial turf there is no give, so the force goes to the player. There are more injuries on artificial turf than grass. Knees and ankles especially. Artificial turf holds up better in the elements, though, and you don’t have to worry about mud pits. Just injured players.
Its Football!
Its supposed to be on grass.
Not some pussy ass, fake grass.
