Baltimore Ravens Gain Momentum™ Through Sportexe® Partnership

Baltimore Ravens Gain Momentum™ Through Sportexe® Partnership

Baltimore, MD (PRWEB) April 30, 2003 -

Fonthill, Ontario based Sportexe®, manufacturer of leading-edge indoor and outdoor sports surfaces, is proud to announce the Baltimore Ravens’ selection of their Momentum Turf System as the team’s new stadium and practice facility field.

After months of research and testing of several artificial turf products, the Ravens are now confident they’ll have the highest quality synthetic surface available when they take the field for their first home pre-season game, August 9th vs Buffalo.

Momentum is Sportexe’s premier sand and rubber infill surface, designed to maximize player speed and performance. The turf’s special mix of sand and granular rubber provides stability, traction and speed, simulating a perfect natural grass surface. This dual infill mix works in unison with high quality polyethylene fibers and a unique multi-layered backing, to provide an extremely fast, yet safe playing field. Momentum was developed by Sportexe technicians specifically for the intense, high caliber play seen at college and professional levels. The confidence in the surface expressed by the entire Ravens organization is testament to its quality. “You want three things from your field: safety, a consistent surface that allows these great athletes to compete at the highest level and durability,” explains coach Brian Billick. “We tested the Momentum Turf and we believe it’s the best possible field for the Ravens.”

One of several synthetic surfaces manufactured by Sportexe, it is only now, after several years of refinement, that the company has chosen to launch what they feel is the best infill product available. The company’s decision to invest resources into product research and manufacturing innovation, rather than marketing, has quickly won the respect of several other high profile clients since Momentum’s recent introduction to the marketplace. The company claims the proof is all in the performance of the turf. “We’re proud of this product and we have tremendous confidence in it,” explains Sportexe president Mark Nicholls, “Other companies choose to be somewhat secretive about the manufacturing process but we can’t wait to show customers exactly how our turf is made and installed because we’re convinced we do it better than anyone.”

About Sportexe

Utilizing their own highly skilled manufacturing and installation crews, Sportexe has become a leader in sports surfacing, with a reputation for competitive pricing and complete quality control at every stage of a job. They’ve successfully completed countless installations at scholastic, commercial and professional levels.

Each one of their removable and permanent artificial turf products is designed and manufactured to ensure maximum safety and playability, including their premier infill product, recently deemed the safest (by the Human Performance Lab, University of Calgary) of the industry’s 20 leading surfaces.

Sportexe is the exclusive turf system supplier for the Arena Football League, AF2, National Lacrosse League, Major Indoor Soccer League and US Indoor Soccer League.

Their roster of surfaces is led by 3 high performance synthetic systems.

Omnigrass® 100% rubber infill product.

Proposition A Flawed

Proposition A Flawed By Hidden Plan It is undisputed by The Park and Rec Department that Proposition A calls for 8.5 million dollars to convert our natural grass athletic fields to synthetic turf. Yet, in the text of Prop A, the ambiguous term play field “reconstruction” is used with no mention of synthetic or artificial turf. Even voters who read the entire voter information pamphlet will not be informed unless they check Park and Rec’s web pages. The omission is deceptive and sheds doubt on the transparency promised in Prop A. In a city with so few green open spaces, the artificial turf plan will eliminate 7% of our green park land. Also, trees along the perimeter of the fields often require removal in order to install the drainage system. Dozens of trees were removed at Crocker Amazon to prepare for artificial turf installation. The rubber component of the turf is made from waste tires and contains harmful chemicals, lead and arsenic. For this reason legislation (Bill A09503) recently introduced in New York by Democratic Assemblyman Steven C. Englebright would ban new synthetic fields pending further study on public health and environmental impact. Additionally, artificial turf lacks the natural antimicrobial activity of real grass, thus bacterial colonies survive longer on artificial turf. With the emergence of antibiotic resistant staph infections (MRSA) among athletes across the country, the increased risk posed by artificial turf cannot be ignored. Field managers

by DC DPR

Question by sanityrose: Toxic Lead Found in Turf…Who should pay?
High counts of Lead was found in a NJ athletic field. Now, officials are looking to test nationally and urge parents everywhere to take precautions……Read article for more info and precautions to take..http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/841411/in_new_jersey_lead_found_in_artificial.html?cat=8

BUT who should pay? SHould counties, boroughs, states, etc pay to have the certain types of turf replaced for safety…or is it up to the football, baseball..etc clubs or organization to cover some of the cost……??Are you worried about this new scare???

Best answer:

Answer by Munkstump
IDK what part of Jersey it is, but where I work, most of it is toxic, all the way to NYC.
The lead should have been checked by whoever bought the property.
Whoever owns it needs to pay for it’s removal. Just like if you found lead in your yard. What do you think you’d do, call the previous owner? Good luck with that.

Purdue Tabs FieldTurf for Second Athletic Complex Field; FieldTurf has Presence at 10 of 11 Big Ten Universities

FieldTurf Logo

West Lafayette, IN (Vocus) April 10, 2009

Purdue University has elected to install a new outdoor FieldTurf surface that will be an integral part of the school’s athletic facilities. This will be the second full FieldTurf field for Boilermaker athletics as an indoor surface was installed at the Mollenkopf Athletic Center in January of 2006. The decision to install the latest FieldTurf was jointly announced by Purdue Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Morgan Burke and FieldTurf CEO Joe Fields.

The new full-length FieldTurf field will sit next to a full natural grass field, and both will be used for practice by the Boilermakers’ football team. Both of those fields will be just north of the Mollenkopf Athletic Center, with the new FieldTurf outdoor surface bordering Northwestern Avenue on campus. This new installation will be part of a $ 99.5 million athletic facilities project for Purdue that will be completed in 2011-12.

FieldTurf has become a favorite of the Big Ten, with the world leader in artificial surfacing now having a strong presence at 10 of the 11 universities in the conference. Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio State and Wisconsin have FieldTurf installed at their respective football stadiums. Northwestern and Penn State join Purdue with major full-sized FieldTurf football fields at their athletic complexes/practice facilities.

“We have been thoroughly pleased with the performance of our FieldTurf surface inside the Mollenkopf Center and are pleased to be installing a second field at our new outdoor practice facility,” said Burke. “Upon completion, we believe Purdue football will be the beneficiary of a series of practice facilities and surfaces as good, if not better, than any in the Big Ten Conference and nationally.”

“It is always a special honor when a major university selects our product for multiple installations,” said Fields. “That is a display of confidence that we do not take lightly. We are so proud that Purdue is inviting FieldTurf to expand its presence on their campus. I know that Morgan Burke and (Assistant AD/Facilities) Steve Simmerman put a lot of effort and research into this phase of their athletic facilities upgrade, and we are pleased to be a part of it. We pledge to provide the finest state-of-the-art field that will provide top-notch performance for Head Football Coach Danny Hope and the rest of the Boilermakers athletic department.”

FieldTurf offers industry leading engineering and manufacturing resources, unparalleled leasing and financing capabilities, and leads the synthetic turf industry with regard to setting higher environmental standards. FieldTurf is the global market leader in terms of synthetic sports fields with over 3000 fields installed.

Additionally, FieldTurf has attained over 12,000 satisfied customers in high quality pet, residential, commercial and municipal landscaping solutions, playground surfacing, and has a complete range of golf and tennis products. FieldTurf synthetic turf customers enjoy the benefits of significantly reduced water consumption, the elimination of fertilizer and pesticides, superior durability and drainage and a product that looks and feels real. FieldTurf Becomes the First to Recycle an Artificial Turf Field

FieldTurf Becomes the First to Recycle an Artificial Turf Field

Calhoun, GA (Vocus) June 17, 2010

FieldTurf has set another industry first by recycling all useable parts of the artificial turf system at War Memorial Stadium in Arkansas. The field was removed and recycled after stadium officials decided to upgrade the surface to the very latest in artificial turf technology – FieldTurf Duraspine Pro. The recycled turf from War Memorial will be shredded and converted into useable materials for new artificial turf applications. This recycling innovation is consistent with FieldTurf’s long-standing commitment to the environment.

The environmental benefits of artificial grass have been well documented over the years. With over 4,000 installed artificial turf fields in North America, FieldTurf products have saved over 675 million gallons of water, 6.7 million pounds of pesticides, and have reused over 5 million tires. And after hundreds of health and safety studies, including assessments by the EPA, state of New York, and the state of California, artificial turf has been determined to be not only green but completely safe.

“We couldn’t be prouder that our surface will represent the first artificial turf field to be fully recycled,” stated War Memorial General Manager Charlie Staggs. “FieldTurf has proven to be the greenest company in the industry with the highest performing products – a combination that is very impressive. We are thrilled to be installing Duraspine Pro – it’s the best turf in the industry.”

“This is a big step forward for our company and our entire industry,” stated FieldTurf CEO Eric Daliere. “Being the first company to successfully remove and recycle a field demonstrates our leadership in the industry on environmental issues.”

FieldTurf fields are now 100% recyclable. When a FieldTurf installation finally comes to the end of its long life, it continues to help our planet. FieldTurf has also launched a “take back” program for both sports fields and landscape applications, whereby FieldTurf will provide customers with the option, in writing, that fields will be recycled at the end of their useful life when replaced with another FieldTurf system.

PROLINE

PROLINE® T44 Synthetic Turf Adhesive Sets a New Quality Standard w/10 Year Seam Warranty in the U.S.

Fort Washington, MD (PRWEB) March 27, 2011

DOC Adhesive Products LLC is the exclusive distributor for Proline in North America, and Mexico. http://www.prolinet44usa.com Proline® T44 is manufactured by Akzo Nobel Bygglim AB (http://www.akzonobel.com) the largest paints, coating and adhesive company in the world. Quality turf brands will be using Proline® to offer their clients the very best. Using cheaply priced unwarranted seaming methods, is not the way to install high performance artificial turf. However, some companies will continue to seek the cheapest possible way to get the fields installed, because their short term bottom line is more important than the long term quality of the field. (http://www.prolinet44usa.com/id20.html)

Proline® vs. Sewn & other Seaming methods:

Many companies promote that sewn seams are stronger than glued seams. That may be the case with other adhesive products, but it’s not true when compared to Proline® seams. Under stringent FIFA testing standards, Proline’s peel strength test results were more than 5 times the FIFA strength requirement (EN 12228 method 2). The testing also showed it remained twice as strong after 3 weeks of the warm water soak testing according to test method EN 13744. (Test results from ISA Sports)

“If any company honestly believes their sewn or glued seams are more durable than the Proline® seaming system, we will read about it in their press release announcing their 10 year seaming warranty. The bar for quality has been set at 10 years; anything less than 10 year exposes field owners to unnecessary repair cost.” — CEO Graham E Hayes II

Proline® PERFORMANCE:

Proline has been used to install fields on indoor, outdoor, public and on private projects since arriving on the U.S. market in 2008. The fields that were installed starting in 2008 are now 50% of the way through their 8 year turf warranty. So far none of the fields have had a seam rupture since the original installation. While we cannot guarantee these results on all fields, as of the date of this press release Proline® T44 is living up to its billing as the single best seaming product on the market for artificial turf.

“Proline® is an elastomeric adhesive and it doesn’t cure hard like polyurethanes and epoxies. Because it remains flexible it can help to absorb the stress on turf seams, which the other glue products that cure hard cannot do. When turf seams go through all the climate changes from hot summer to freezing wet winter weather, Proline® never gets brittle or cracks like polyurethanes or epoxies, it’s engineered to outlast the turf itself.” — CEO Graham E Hayes II

Many clients around the country have already received their warranties from using Proline® T44 and don’t have worry about their seams. (Maryland Soccer Foundation, Baltimore County Parks & Recreation Department, Benton High School, Benton, AR, to name a few).

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:

Proline is the greenest artificial turf adhesive in use on the U.S. market. Proline is non-carcinogenic, it contains no solvents, and no Isocynanate and less than 2% VOC. DOC Adhesive Products was unable to find any competing glue products in use that could match Proline®’s environmental footprint.

Many polyurethanes or epoxy products will promote low VOC’s and no solvents, but none are promoting having No Isocynanate. Most current U.S. turf adhesive products in use for a year or longer, contain harmful Isocynanate. They promote NO SOLVENTS and Low VOC’s in bold type in their marketing which helps divert attention away from their inability to remove the Isocynanate. Proline® is safe for the workers who use it, it requires no ventilation when used indoors and won’t create recycling issues for owners when the field has to be disposed of in 8 to 10 years. (http://www.prolinet44usa.com/id6.html)

In the past 5 years over 1000 fields have been installed using hot melt type asphalt roofing tar products like this one made by Firestone. (http://www.firestonebpco.com) This is probably a great product for its intended application, but there is no need to use a product like this to install artificial turf.

Firestone® Building Products Company

Material Safety Data Sheet and Technical manual

(http://www.firestonebpco.com/templateFiles/includes/common/displayFile.ashx?fileId=2390) and the msds (http://www.firestonebpco.com/templateFiles/includes/common/displayFile.ashx?fileId=2091)

SECTION 3: HAZARD IDENTIFICATION

Primary Route of Exposure: Inhalation

Signs and Symptoms of

Exposure: Causes a foreign body reaction (mechanical irritation). Fumes generated by molten asphalt may cause eye, skin and respiratory tract irritation. Molten asphalt will cause thermal burns.

SECTION 7: EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION

Ventilation: Use in well-ventilated area.

Respiratory Protection: Use NIOSH – approved dust, mist, and fume respirator if exposure

might exceed the PEL or TLV.

Eye Protection: The use of safety glasses with side shields may be warranted.

Skin Protection: The use of leather or cotton gloves for direct handling is likely

warranted.

Other: None recommended

Work / Hygienic Practices: Wash exposed skin prior to eating, drinking or smoking and at the

end of each shift. Wash contaminated clothing prior to reuse.

Turf installers using these type hot melt products should be wearing protective gear, breathers, gloves glasses etc., it’s recommended by the manufacture. This product is dispensed in hot melt equipment requiring it to be heated to extremely high temperatures, as with most asphalt roofing type products. That opens the door for workers to be potentially burned if there is a spill or accident, which show why turf installers should be wearing protective gear with hot melt. While the cost to use hot melt is extremely cheap and it helps companies win competitively bid projects, it’s not how environmentally conscious synthetic turf surfaces should be installed.

“We’ve used many methods to install artificial turf over our 25 years in the industry. In the past we used the hot melt asphalt product as required when doing subcontract installation work for some turf brands, but we stopped back in 2006. We knew there was a better way to seam turf fields than with carcinogenic products and instead of searching for the cheapest method to win new contracts, we searched for the highest quality. After testing and researching artificial turf adhesive products from all over the world we found the best product, its 100% Green and it has a 10 year warranty.” — DOC CEO- Graham E Hayes II

Proline T44 is the safest environmental seaming adhesive on the U.S. market. It’s safe during the installation for the workers building the field. There are no issues of fume inhalation for school or parks officials who may be on-site watching the installation work. Proline® T44 stands unmatched in its environmental position and carbon footprint, and it’s reflected in the manufacturer of the product. In 2010, Akzo Nobel Bygglim AB was recognized as the #1 chemical company in the world for sustainability, by the DJSI Dow Jones Sustainability Index. (http://www.sustainability-index.com/djsi_pdf/Bios11/AkzoNobel_11.pdf) Akzo Nobel is the only manufacturer that has enough confidence in their adhesive to place a warranty on its performance. That says a lot when you consider for the past 25 years seam rupture repairs have been the #1 turf repair issue world-wide. Because of the staggering liability behind the seams on turf fields, it takes a quality company with a top notch product to open the door to that type of exposure. Proline® T44 has seaming warranties in effect world-wide because they are the market leader.

DOC Sports Surface Contractors, LLC (http://www.docssc.com) is the exclusive service contractor for Akzo Nobel Bygglim AB in the U.S. and has over 25 years of experience installing and repairs synthetic turf fields. DOC will gladly do any warranty repair work on Proline seams U.S. installations. The company has a national service network of skilled turf installers and repair technician. If your field wasn’t installed with Proline® T44 but you need repairs, please call or send us an email us. DOC can provide repair services outside the Proline® warranty for any customer in need regardless of turf brand.

We offer sports turf managers/field owners free consulting services on how to repair a synthetic turf field, when using our products. We offer Proline® T44 and a matching Do-It-Yourself product design for small repair work called DOC SuperFix. (http://www.prolinet44usa.com/id16.html) It dispenses much like using a caulking gun and we have technicians who can walk you through the process to repair your field if you want to do it yourself. We provide a full service to field owners looking to keep their fields in play. We offer a mobile repair kit perfect for schools and parks department containing all you need to do most standard repairs on your fields. If you have a major problem we can connect you with a turf repair technician to get you back up and running. If its artificial turf we can fix it.

SCHOOL DISTRICTS & PARKS DEPARTMENTS:

Proline® T44 is perfect for school districts and parks & recreation departments that may use multiple brands of artificial turf. If a school district requires all their fields to be installed with Proline, we will provide a back-up warranty to all the turf companies or contractors that are used. If they go out of business, are sold or anything that prevents them from servicing your field seams, you will always have the Proline warranty to fall back on for 10 years. Public fields need to last as long as possible due to limited funding and often times the fields have to be kept in play beyond the turf warranty period. This seaming warranty could save school and parks departments thousands of dollars in repair costs and it can all be done by requiring the field be installed with Proline T44.

BID SPECIFICATIONS:

Contact our office for information and specifications that you can add to the bidding process for a new field, to ensure your fields are installed with Proline. For owners it’s the best of both worlds, you have a back-up for the turf company with an independent warranty for 10 years. Specifications (http://www.prolinet44usa.com/id6.html)

ECO-SAFE ARTIFICIAL TURF – WITHIN YOUR BUDGET

A revealing comparison that illustrates how the ECOnomicDeZine concept delivers performance and appearance that is clearly superior to that of conventional artificial turf.
Video Rating: 5 / 5

Dr. Joel Forman of Mount Sinai’s Children’s Environmental Health Center talks on the health concerns of second generation turf fields. He gives parents practical advice on how they can protect their children and themselves. Although the desire to improve access to recreational sports fields is clearly well intentioned the risks that accompany synthetic turf need to be carefully considered. Modern natural grass system fields have made substantial advances in the last decade and should be given careful consideration as an alternative to synthetic turf installations. Although such natural grass fields may not offer the full time access that synthetic fields can potentially provide, they have become much more durable, easier to maintain, and more accessible than old natural grass fields and may compare quite favorably in terms of costs. Given the uncertainty of the environmental and health risks associated with synthetic turf, communities should carefully consider all of the alternatives available including modern natural grass systems when they work to improve the availability of sports fields for children. What can parents do? Parents should insist that their communities, schools, and parks departments carefully consider all of the issues related to synthetic turf and include health risks from synthetic turf, alternatives like advanced modern natural grass fields, and a balanced cost comparison of the various options in their decision making. When dealing with already
